It is estimated that the global ethylene glycol production capacity may be surplus in 2010
as the world's largest consumer of ethylene glycol, China's consumption in 2010 accounted for about 1/3 of the world's consumption. From 2008 to 2010, China will increase the production capacity of ethylene glycol by 2.21 million tons/year, of which 1.61 million tons/year have been approved. It is estimated that the total production capacity of China this year will reach about 4million tons, and the total demand for ethylene glycol will reach about 7.1 million tons
however, some analysts pointed out that the global total consumption of ethylene glycol is expected to reach 21.88 million tons this year, and the total production capacity is as high as 27.09 million tons. Due to the global overcapacity, the Chinese market is facing the impact of low-cost products in the Middle East
in the next few years, China will become a market that global ethylene glycol manufacturers will compete to seize. With the commissioning of large ethylene glycol projects in Asia, the contradiction between long-term supply and demand of ethylene glycol products in this region will be alleviated to a certain extent, but there is still a large gap between supply and demand. Facing the rapidly expanding market in Asia, especially in China, major companies around the world are stepping up the construction and expansion of ethylene glycol production capacity. 3. In addition to Canada, the United States, South Korea and Japan, which traditionally export ethylene glycol to China, the market share of ethylene glycol produced by Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries based on its cheap ethane raw materials is rapidly increasing in China
according to the data, the import volume of ethylene glycol in China exceeded 5.8 million tons in 2009, an increase of 12% over 2008. From 2000 to 2008, the average annual growth rate of ethylene glycol consumption in China was 18.4%, and the average annual growth rate of domestic ethylene glycol supply in the same period was 12.3%. The growth of domestic production was far from enough to meet the demand growth
